We’re steadying the ship, steering a course towards the shore and setting down our anchor until calm returns. We’re taking stock of what we have and focusing on those we seek to serve – this is the talk of leaders navigating their organisation through tough times.
We prioritised the wellbeing and morale of staff by speaking positively and encouraging the use of upbeat, inspiring language as we looked ahead and planned for change. While the world around us went into panic mode, we took a stand and communicated against the ‘bad news tide’ by sharing Good News stories daily across all four social media platforms.
We navigated our way through the challenges we faced, determined to set Steady as She Goes as a framework which got us ready and keen to hit the ground running through the unknown season.
We did not work from home! In the field we continued to deliver birthday presents to around 25 children each month. •connected and encourage ‘Getting Ready for Take Off’ participants via scheduled online video coaching sessions to stay their course. • engaged with families using all the technical tools at our disposal. • supported children and their caregivers with creative ideas through school holidays and enforced school ‘downtime’ • delivered food hampers, donated art packs and restored bicycles with helmets.
We are in this together and together we can continue to move forward because our confidence is in our purpose – restoring hope and giving ‘second chances’ to those impacted by the criminal justice system.
Our ship leaves the shore for new, uncharted waters, when we’re free to sail full steam ahead. Our families needed to know we were with them all the way. We’re grateful to staff for ‘being there’ and supporting us through this challenging time.
