There are many references to ‘light and love’ on social media but I’m not so sure people know what they are referring to. Light is that inexplicable, penetrable and radiant stuff which invades and wipes out the darkness. Where there is light, darkness has no where to exist. It must go.
Some of us have experienced the various forms of love including, eros, philia, storge and agape love which can be experienced simultaneously towards different people, including God. True and pure love is a wonderful thing especially when it is reciprocated.
When it comes to ‘Light’, it can be quite scary because true light exposes the things we don’t want to admit to or have uncovered and revealed to family, friends and the world. Like it or not, we all have secrets for various reasons. Some have good and selfless reasons namely, to protect another. Some of us conceal truth and to do that we tell lies.
If we are not afraid of the light, all of those things which can bring us shame, guilt, embarrassment and exposure will come out. This can be the most cathartic and cleansing experience of our entire life. They say criminals always feel better when they’ve confessed. They feel their burden of guilt has been lifted.
So the real question is, ‘Do we really want the light?’
Another aspect to ‘Light’ is to confront. Who likes to be confronted? Who likes to confront? As parents, we needed to confront our children about their wrong doings so they would learn, be corrected and not make the same mistake again.
Somehow along life’s way, we have taken a dislike to being confronted. We may avoid it because we are proud individuals who care more about what people think than actually arriving at the truth. The truth can be painful as we might have to make some changes to our lives we don’t want to make.
My point is this. If we truly want ‘Light and Love’ be very aware that when these come into our lives, it may not be the pretty, fluffy feeling those words appear to generate so lightly on social media. Get ready. Brace yourself. True Light and Love are yet to come.
