It’s the Little Things

The broken spring which won’t allow me to open the petrol cap on my car; The clip at the back of my dress which won’t hook up; The zipper on me purse which won’t close; The door key which gets stuck and won’t turn; The smallest but painful thorn in my foot which won’t come out.

These are all small but irritating because they hinder us; they stop the normal flow of things to function without irritation in our day.

Like crabs nipping us around our ankles, these things irritate, frustrate and stop us in our tracks.

It’s amazing how the smallest things can impact our daily lives. That’s when we use temporary and quick methods to ‘fix’ things, like sticky tape, paper clips, duck-tape, soap, WD40, tissues and oil.

Who is willing to tolerate these small irritants? Do we get the professionals to repair them? The spring on the car petrol cap? Replace them by buying a new purse, dress or do we suffer the make do ‘fixes’?

I’ve always been amazed how it is the ‘little things’ which can hold us back. Depending on our outlook we can make these ‘little things’ into big issues. Sometimes these can become huge obstacles in marriages but the most important ‘Don’t for Living’ says, ‘Don’t sweat the small stuff’. But when small stuff becomes big stuff in our minds we have trouble.

My best advice is we count the value these things have in our life, then have things fixed professionally or replaced, so these ‘little things’ don’t hang around our lives for so long they become ‘big things’. Minimise them as soon as practicable.
